Feldenkrais and the Alba Method of Acting
Saturday, January 26th & 27th, 2020
Berkeley Rep School of Theatre
2071 Addison Street,
Improving the awareness of self, this class will explore how each body response is linked to an emotion and how we relate certain emotions to a particular movement, gestures or body sensation. Using the Feldenkrais Method of somatic education, Inspired by Laura Bond’s work on “The Emotional Body” and the Alba Method of acting, this class offers tools to investigate your own emotions and/or the emotion and body language of a character you might play.
The class also aims to give you tools to take care of yourself and return to a neutral or zero state. Tools that help transitioning from one character to another, from stage life back to life in general, or to simply help with self regulation, to better understand and manage our own emotions.
Getting off the floor gracefully and falling fearlessly
Saturday, November 9th, 2019, 2:00-4:30pm
The Corner Studio
1910 Bryant Street @ Mariposa,
San Francisco, CA 94110
Are you afraid of falling? Do you want to feel safer if you do fall?
Do you want to improve your skills of falling for theater, martial arts, circus, or dance?
Using your body intelligence, we will explore how to get up from/down to the ground through gentle exploration. The aim of this workshop is to improve fluidity of motion by constantly adapting to our environment. We will learn to avoid collision, and instead find the soft body parts to roll onto and to spread our weight to reduce impact. It’s not about fighting gravity, but rather playing with it.
